Terms of Service

Agreeing to these terms

By using SpellingIQ (spellingiq.com), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site. We'll spell "don't" correctly either way.

What SpellingIQ is (and isn't)

SpellingIQ is a spelling game. Your SpellingIQ score is a game rating on an IQ-style scale. It is not a clinical, psychometric, or scientifically validated measure of intelligence, and it shouldn't be used as one. American English is the canonical spelling; common variants are accepted where reasonable.

Your account

You can play without an account. If you create one, keep your email account secure: sign-in links go there, and anyone with access to your inbox can access your SpellingIQ account. You're responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from the settings page.

Acceptable use

Don't do things that break the game for everyone else. In particular, don't:

  • use bots, scripts, or automation to play or to scrape the word corpus;
  • attempt to break, probe, or overload the service or its infrastructure;
  • share daily answers in a way designed to spoil the puzzle for others;
  • impersonate other people or misrepresent your affiliation with SpellingIQ.

We may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the service.

Content and ownership

The site, its design, word curation, scoring system, and code are owned by SpellingIQ or its licensors. Your gameplay results are yours to share, so screenshot and brag freely.

Disclaimers

SpellingIQ is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We aim for accuracy in definitions, pronunciations, and accepted spellings, but English is rigged and dictionaries disagree; we don't guarantee the service will be error-free or always available.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpellingIQ is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us to use SpellingIQ, which at present is nothing.

Changes to the service or these terms

We may change, pause, or discontinue features at any time. If these terms change materially, we'll update this page and the date at the top; continuing to use the site after changes means you accept them.
