Why this exists
Somewhere between the red squiggly line and the phone that finishes your words, most of us quietly stopped knowing how to spell. Autocorrect made us soft. SpellingIQ is the gym: you hear a word, you type it with no safety net, and you find out where you actually stand.
How the score works
Your SpellingIQ is a single number on a scale running from 300 to 2200. It rises when you spell words correctly and falls when you don't, weighted by how hard each word is. It's a game rating, not a clinical measure, but it's an honest one, and it's surprisingly hard to fake. Most adults first place somewhere around 900–1200.
The Daily Five
Every day there's one shared puzzle: five words, the same five for everyone, drawn from a curated corpus. About one minute, no signup required. Streaks are kept, results are shareable, and yesterday's excuses don't carry over.
House rules on spelling
American English is the canonical spelling. Common variants such as "colour," "organise" and friends are accepted where reasonable, because the point is knowing the word, not winning an argument about the Atlantic.
Who's behind it
SpellingIQ is a small independent project, built by people who kept losing arguments with their own autocorrect. No venture capital, no growth team: just a word list, a scoring curve, and a grudge against silent letters.
