How to spell rhythm

rhythm

Rhythm is spelled R-H-Y-T-H-M.

Not rythm or rhythym.

Why is rhythm easy to misspell?

Silent letters

The word rhythm has two Hs, one after the R and one after the T, and rythm is the spelling that drops the first. There is no A, E, I, O or U in it either: the Y does the vowel's work.

That spelling matches the sound exactly, which is why it looked right. English keeps letters long after the sound has moved on, so the conventional spelling is often the one that looks least like it sounds.

Greek spelling: rh for the r sound, y for the i sound between consonants

What does rhythm mean?
