How to spell address

address

Not adress or addres.

The trap

Double letters

The word address has two Ds and two Ss, and adress is the version that drops a D. The front pair is the one that tends to go, because ad looks like a short prefix that would not double.

Doubled letters are part of how a word is built, not decoration. The reason behind a double varies from word to word. Often it is an added ending, sometimes the word's history, so the double is learned along with the word.

What it means

noun. The particulars of the place where someone lives or an organization is situated.
