How to spell precede
precede
Precede is spelled P-R-E-C-E-D-E.
Not preceed.
Why is precede easy to misspell?
The word precede ends -cede, and the misspelling preceed gives it the -ceed of proceed. Among common words only exceed, proceed and succeed end -ceed, and precede is not one of them.
This is one of the few endings English settles outright. Only exceed, proceed and succeed take -ceed, and only supersede takes -sede; everything else is -cede.
