How to spell parallel
parallel
Not paralell or parralel.
The trap
The spelling parallel has a double L in the middle and a single L at the end, and paralell swaps them. Said aloud the two Ls sound alike, so the ear cannot tell which pair is the double.
Doubled letters are part of how a word is built, not decoration. The reason behind a double varies from word to word. Often it is an added ending, sometimes the word's history, so the double is learned along with the word.
What it means
adjective. Side by side and having the same distance continuously between them; never meeting.
