How to spell experience

experience

Experience is spelled E-X-P-E-R-I-E-N-C-E.

Not experiance.

Why is experience easy to misspell?

-ance or -ence

The word experience ends -ence, and experiance spells that ending by ear. There is no common experient to check it against, but experiential keeps the E, as existential does for existence.

-ance and -ence flatten to the same sound in an unstressed syllable, so the ear cannot settle it. A relative often can: -ant goes with -ance and -ent with -ence (important, importance).

What does experience mean?

noun. Practical contact with and observation of facts or events.
