How to spell height

height

Not hieght or heighth.

The trap

I before E

The word height puts E before I, and the misspelling hieght swaps the two letters. The pair is not the ee sound at all here, and EI is spelled the same as in weight and eight, though it sounds different.

IE and EI are easy to swap, so the order has to be known. When the pair says 'ee' it is usually IE, but EI straight after a C that says S (receive), unless the IE came from a Y (policies); when it says 'ay' it is usually EI (eight).

height

Native English spelling: silent gh

What it means

noun. The measurement of someone or something from head to foot or from base to top.
