How to spell piece

piece

Not peice.

Homophone of 'peace'.

The trap

I before E

The word piece puts I before E, and the misspelling peice swaps the two letters. There is a pie at the start of piece, which is one of the easiest checks a spelling offers.

IE and EI are easy to swap, so the order has to be known. When the pair says 'ee' it is usually IE, but EI straight after a C that says S (receive), unless the IE came from a Y (policies); when it says 'ay' it is usually EI (eight).

piece

What it means

noun. A portion of an object or of material, produced by cutting, tearing, or breaking the whole.
