How to spell receive
receive
Not recieve.
The trap
The word receive puts E before I, and the misspelling recieve swaps the two letters. This is the after-C case: for the ee sound, EI straight after a C that says S is the usual order, as in ceiling and deceive.
IE and EI are easy to swap, so the order has to be known. When the pair says 'ee' it is usually IE, but EI straight after a C that says S (receive), unless the IE came from a Y (policies); when it says 'ay' it is usually EI (eight).
What it means
verb. To get or accept something given or sent.
