How to spell adequate
adequate
Not adaquate.
The trap
The second vowel of adequate is an E, ad-e-quate, and adaquate writes an A. Said at speed that E is a murmur, and a murmur can be spelled by any vowel the hand reaches for.
An unstressed vowel flattens to the same sound whatever letter spells it, so the ear cannot tell them apart. A relative that stresses the syllable gives the letter back.
What it means
adjective. Satisfactory or acceptable in quality or quantity.
