The trap
The third vowel of anonymous is a Y, a-non-y-mous, and anonomous writes an O there. Anonymity stresses that syllable and brings the Y back into hearing: an-o-nym-i-ty.
An unstressed vowel flattens to the same sound whatever letter spells it, so the ear cannot tell them apart. A relative that stresses the syllable gives the letter back.
